Timmy Thomas was an American soul musician and songwriter best known for his 1972 hit single "Why Can't We Live Together," which reached number one on the R&B charts and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Born in Evansville, Indiana, he began his career as a session musician and later gained recognition for his distinctive use of the Hammond organ and his socially conscious lyrics. Throughout the 1970s, Thomas released several albums on the Glades label and continued to work as a songwriter and producer. His music combined elements of soul, funk, and early disco, and he remained active in the music industry for decades, releasing new material into the 2000s.
