Bio
John Prine (1946–2020) was an American singer-songwriter whose plain-spoken, wryly observational songs made him a cornerstone of the Americana and folk traditions. Born in Maywood, Illinois, he began performing in Chicago clubs in the late 1960s and released his self-titled debut album in 1971, quickly earning acclaim for story-songs such as "Angel from Montgomery" and "Sam Stone." Over five decades Prine recorded more than a dozen studio albums, blending elements of country, folk, and rock while maintaining an intimate, conversational style. His work earned him a devoted following and multiple Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020, shortly before his death from complications of COVID-19.
