Bio
Josef Suk (1929–2011) was a Czech violinist and conductor whose career spanned more than five decades. A direct descendant of the composer Josef Suk, he studied at the Prague Conservatory and quickly established himself as one of the leading violinists of his generation. He performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, collaborating with pianists such as Jan Panenka and cellist Josef Chuchro in the Suk Trio. Suk also conducted major orchestras across Europe and made numerous recordings of Czech repertoire, including works by Dvořák, Janáček, and his grandfather. His playing was noted for its lyrical tone and technical precision, and he received several international awards for his contributions to classical music.
