Bio
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (1922–2011) was a leading Indian classical vocalist of the Kirana gharana, renowned for his powerful voice and emotive renditions of khyal, thumri, and bhajans. Born in Karnataka, he trained under Sawai Gandharva and became one of the most celebrated Hindustani singers of the 20th century. Joshi received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, along with the Padma Vibhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship. His performances, especially the popular “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara” national integration music video, brought classical music to a wide audience across India and abroad.
