Ranking Joe, born Joseph Jackson on July 1, 1959, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a veteran reggae deejay and producer. He began his career in the mid-1970s, working with sound systems such as El Paso and King Tubby’s Hometown Hi-Fi before recording his first single, "Honda Step," in 1975. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s he became known for his rapid-fire toasting style on hits like "Weakheart Fadeaway" and "River Jordan." Ranking Joe has continued to record and perform internationally, maintaining a presence in both traditional reggae and later dancehall and jungle scenes.
