Bio
Nirvana was an American grunge band formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987 by singer-guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. With drummer Dave Grohl joining in 1990, the trio defined the early-1990s alternative-rock explosion. Their 1991 album Nevermind and its lead single Smells Like Teen Spirit propelled grunge into the mainstream. Follow-up In Utero and the live album MTV Unplugged in New York further cemented their legacy before Cobain’s death in 1994. Nirvana has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
