Anne Clark is an English poet, songwriter and electronic musician born in Croydon in 1960. She emerged in the early 1980s as a distinctive voice in the UK post-punk and electronic scenes, combining spoken-word poetry with minimalist synthesizer arrangements. Her debut album, The Sitting Room (1982), established her stark, introspective style that would influence later cold wave and darkwave artists. Over four decades Clark has released more than a dozen studio albums, collaborating with producers and musicians across Europe while remaining independent of major-label trends. Her best-known works include “Our Darkness,” “Sleeper in Metropolis” and the 1987 album Hopeless Cases. She continues to record and perform, maintaining a devoted international following drawn to her literate, atmospheric sound.
