Nino Rota

Nino Rota (1911–1979) was an Italian composer renowned for his film scores, particularly his long collaboration with directors Federico Fellini and Francis Ford Coppola. Born in Milan, he studied at the Milan Conservatory and later at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. His music combined classical technique with lyrical, memorable melodies that became synonymous with Italian cinema of the mid-20th century. Rota composed over 150 film scores, including the music for La Strada, La Dolce Vita, The Godfather, and Romeo and Juliet. His score for The Godfather earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Score. Beyond cinema, he wrote operas, ballets, symphonies, and chamber music, maintaining an active career as both a composer and an academic until his death in Rome.
