Chrissie Hynde is an American rock singer-songwriter best known as the founder and lead vocalist of the band the Pretenders. Born in Akron, Ohio, she rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s with a distinctive voice and songwriting style that blended punk, new wave, and classic rock influences. Hynde has remained the only consistent member of the Pretenders throughout their decades-long career, guiding the band through numerous lineup changes while maintaining a strong creative vision. In addition to her work with the Pretenders, she has released solo material and collaborated with a wide range of artists across rock and pop genres.
