Francis Bebey (1929–2001) was a Cameroonian musician, novelist, and poet whose work bridged traditional African sounds with modern styles. Born in Douala, he became known for his distinctive guitar playing and for popularizing the Cameroonian genre bikutsi internationally. Beyond music, Bebey authored several novels and essays, often exploring themes of African identity and postcolonial experience. His recordings, such as the album "African Electronic Music," combined acoustic instruments with early electronic techniques, leaving a lasting influence on world-music and experimental genres.
