Tony Joe White was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist whose swampy blend of blues, country, and Cajun music earned him the nickname "The Swamp Fox." Born in Oak Grove, Louisiana, he drew heavily on the sounds and stories of the Mississippi Delta, creating a distinctive style that influenced generations of musicians. His 1969 hit "Polk Salad Annie" brought him national attention, and his songwriting was later covered by artists such as Elvis Presley and Tina Turner. White continued to record and perform until his death in 2018, leaving behind a catalog celebrated for its raw, atmospheric storytelling.
