Bio
Rita Coolidge is an American singer and songwriter born in Lafayette, Tennessee, in 1945. She first gained prominence in the late 1960s as a backing vocalist for artists such as Leon Russell, Joe Cocker, and Eric Clapton before launching a solo career in the early 1970s. Her smooth, soul-inflected voice brought her a string of hits including "We're All Alone," "Higher and Higher," and "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love." Coolidge has also recorded several duets with her former husband, Kris Kristofferson, and has earned two Grammy Awards for her work in pop and country music.
