Bio
St. James Baroque Players is a London-based period-instrument ensemble founded in the late 1980s and closely associated with St James’s Church, Piccadilly. The group performs Baroque repertoire on original instruments or historically informed copies, focusing on works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and their contemporaries. Under founding director Ivor Bolton and later leaders such as Robert King and Laurence Cummings, the ensemble has appeared at major UK festivals and recorded for ASV, Hyperion and Signum. Their discography includes cantatas, oratorios and instrumental concertos that emphasize clarity of line and dance-like rhythms typical of historically informed performance practice.
