Bio

The Mamas & The Papas were an American folk rock vocal group formed in New York City in 1965. The quartet—John Phillips, Denny Doherty, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips—became known for their rich vocal harmonies and hits such as "California Dreamin'" and "Monday, Monday." Their music blended folk, pop, and rock elements, helping define the sound of mid-1960s California pop culture. Active until 1968 and briefly reuniting in 1971, the group released five studio albums before disbanding in 1972. Their influence on vocal harmony groups and the folk-rock movement remains significant, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
