Bio
Vittorio Monti (1868–1922) was an Italian violinist, conductor, and composer born in Naples. He studied violin and composition at the Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella before moving to Paris, where he became conductor of the Lamoureux Orchestra. Monti is best remembered for his 1904 czárdás for violin and piano, a work that remains one of the most frequently performed pieces in the violin repertoire. His other compositions include operettas, ballets, and additional salon pieces, though none achieved the lasting popularity of his celebrated czárdás.
