Nat King Cole was an American singer, pianist, and songwriter who became one of the most iconic voices of the 20th century. He first gained fame as the leader of the King Cole Trio, a jazz group known for its intimate, piano-driven sound. Over time, Cole transitioned into a solo pop and vocal jazz career, recording timeless hits such as "Unforgettable," "Mona Lisa," and "L-O-V-E." His smooth baritone and sophisticated phrasing made him a crossover star who appealed to both jazz and mainstream audiences. Beyond his musical achievements, Cole broke racial barriers in the entertainment industry, becoming the first African American to host a nationally televised variety series in the United States. He continued performing and recording until his death in 1965, leaving behind a vast catalog that remains influential in vocal jazz and adult standards.
