Cameo is an American funk band formed in New York in 1974. Originally known as the New York Players, the group rose to prominence in the late 1970s and 1980s with a distinctive blend of funk, soul, and R&B. Led by singer and producer Larry Blackmon, Cameo became known for their elaborate stage costumes, energetic performances, and hits such as "Word Up!" and "Candy." The band’s sound evolved over the decades while maintaining a core funk identity, influencing generations of artists in the genre.
