Jorge Drexler is a Uruguayan singer-songwriter born in Montevideo in 1964. He began his career in the 1990s with a folk-influenced acoustic style and later moved to Spain, where he developed a broader international profile. Drexler blends Latin American folk, pop, and electronic elements, often writing introspective lyrics in Spanish. He gained worldwide recognition after winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Al Otro Lado del Río” from The Motorcycle Diaries in 2005. His discography includes albums such as Frontera (1994), Sea (2001), and 12 Segundos de Oscuridad (2006). He has collaborated with artists including Shakira, Paulinho Moska, and Ana Tijoux. Drexler remains one of Uruguay’s most respected contemporary musicians.
