Bio
Tom Tom Club is an American new wave band formed in 1981 in Nassau, Bahamas by Talking Heads members Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz. The group emerged as a side project during a Talking Heads hiatus and quickly gained recognition for its eclectic mix of funk, reggae, pop, and dance music. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1981, featured the hit single "Genius of Love," which became a staple in hip-hop sampling and reached the top of the US dance charts. The band continued to release albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including Close to the Bone (1983) and Dark Sneak Love Action (1992), maintaining their reputation for genre-blending experimentation. Tom Tom Club's music is characterized by its playful lyrics, infectious grooves, and collaborative spirit, often featuring a rotating cast of musicians. Their influence extends beyond their own recordings, as "Genius of Love" has been sampled by numerous artists across hip-hop and electronic music genres.
