Bläservereinigung der Wiener Philharmoniker is the wind ensemble of the Vienna Philharmonic, drawing its members from the orchestra’s woodwind, brass and percussion sections. Founded in the mid-20th century, the group performs repertoire ranging from Baroque suites and Classical divertimenti to contemporary commissions, often in the Musikverein and at the Salzburg Festival. It has collaborated with conductors such as Karl Böhm, Leonard Bernstein and Claudio Abbado, and has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon and Decca. The ensemble maintains the Philharmonic’s tradition of refined, transparent wind playing while championing new works for winds and percussion.
