Vincenzo Bellini (1801–1835) was a leading Italian composer of the bel canto era, renowned for his lyrical melodies and expressive vocal writing. Born in Catania, Sicily, he studied at the Naples Conservatory and achieved early success with operas such as Il pirata and La sonnambula. Bellini’s mature works, including Norma and I puritani, are celebrated for their long, arching lines and emotional depth, influencing later composers like Wagner and Chopin. He died in Paris at the age of 33, leaving a compact but influential body of work that remains central to the operatic repertoire.
