Bio
José Carreras is a Spanish tenor born in Barcelona in 1946. He rose to international prominence in the 1970s with acclaimed performances at major opera houses including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Vienna State Opera. Carreras is especially known for his interpretations of Verdi and Puccini roles, as well as his work in zarzuela. Alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, Carreras formed the celebrated Three Tenors, whose 1990 concert in Rome became one of the best-selling classical recordings of all time. He has recorded extensively for major labels and remains active as a recitalist and recording artist.
