The Orb is a British electronic music group formed in London in 1988, known for pioneering the ambient house genre. Their work blends dub, ambient, and IDM elements, often incorporating samples and spoken-word snippets into extended, atmospheric compositions. The group gained prominence in the early 1990s with albums such as The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld and U.F.Orb, which helped define the chill-out room sound of the rave era. Core members have included Alex Paterson and, at various times, producers like Youth and Thomas Fehlmann. Over more than three decades, The Orb have maintained a prolific output, releasing numerous studio albums and collaborating with artists across the electronic spectrum while continuing to explore experimental soundscapes.
