Bio
Adolphe Adam was a French composer of the Romantic era, born in Paris on 24 July 1803. He is best remembered for his ballet scores, most notably Giselle (1841), which remains a cornerstone of the classical repertoire. Adam also composed numerous operas-comiques and contributed significantly to the development of French ballet music in the mid-19th century. Trained at the Paris Conservatoire, Adam gained early recognition with his opera Le Chalet (1834) and went on to write over seventy stage works. Despite financial difficulties later in life, he continued composing until his death in Paris on 3 May 1856. His melodic style and gift for theatrical music secured his lasting place in the history of ballet and French opera.
