Bio

Richard Ashcroft (born 11 September 1971) is an English singer-songwriter best known as the frontman of the rock band The Verve. Born in Higher End, Greater Manchester, he rose to prominence in the 1990s with the band’s string of hits including “Bitter Sweet Symphony,” “Lucky Man,” and “The Drugs Don’t Work.” After The Verve disbanded in 1999, Ashcroft launched a solo career, releasing albums such as Alone with Everybody (2000) and Human Conditions (2002). His solo work blends Britpop and Madchester influences with introspective lyrics and expansive arrangements. Ashcroft has continued to record and tour both as a solo artist and with periodic Verve reunions.
