Bio
Max Romeo (born Maxwell Smith, 22 November 1947) is a Jamaican reggae and roots artist whose career began in the late 1960s. He first gained attention with the socially charged single "Wet Dream" and later became a leading voice in the roots reggae movement. Working with producers such as Lee "Scratch" Perry, Romeo released the landmark album "War Ina Babylon" (1976), whose title track became an anthem of resistance. His lyrics frequently addressed political injustice, spirituality, and everyday Jamaican life. Active for more than five decades, Romeo has continued to record and perform internationally, maintaining a reputation as one of reggae’s most enduring and outspoken figures.
