Yukihiro Takahashi

Bio

Yukihiro Takahashi (1952–2023) was a Japanese drummer, singer and producer best known as a founding member of the influential electronic trio Yellow Magic Orchestra. His crisp, minimalist drumming and cool vocal style helped define the sound of early synth-pop and city pop in Japan. Beyond YMO, Takahashi maintained a prolific solo career, releasing albums such as Saravah! (1978) and Neuromantic (1981) that blended funk, new-wave and electronic textures. He also collaborated with international artists including Bill Nelson, Tony Banks and the British band The Beatniks, and produced records for other Japanese acts throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
