Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were a Seattle-based hip hop duo consisting of rapper Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis. They rose to global prominence in 2012 with the independent release of their debut album The Heist, which spawned the hit singles "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us." The project blended hip hop with pop and indie sensibilities, achieving massive commercial success without a major label. Their follow-up album This Unruly Mess I've Made arrived in 2016 before the duo went on hiatus, with both members pursuing solo endeavors. Macklemore later released Gemini in 2017 and Ben in 2023.
