Sidhu Moose Wala was an Indian singer, rapper, and songwriter from Punjab who rose to prominence in the late 2010s. He blended traditional Punjabi folk elements with contemporary hip-hop and trap production, becoming one of the most-streamed Punjabi artists globally. His lyrics often addressed social issues, rural life, and personal experiences, resonating strongly with Punjabi youth both in India and the diaspora. Born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu on 11 June 1993 in the village of Moosa, Punjab, he initially studied mechanical engineering before pursuing music full-time. Moose Wala gained widespread recognition with tracks such as “So High” and “Old Skool,” and later albums like PBX 1 and Moosetape. He was shot and killed in Mansa, Punjab, on 29 May 2022 at the age of 28.
