Wynton Marsalis is an American trumpeter, composer, and bandleader born in New Orleans in 1961. He is widely recognized for his mastery of both classical and jazz trumpet, having recorded acclaimed albums in both genres and performed with leading orchestras and jazz ensembles worldwide. Marsalis has been a prominent advocate for jazz education and preservation. He served as artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and has composed major works for orchestra and jazz ensemble, including oratorios and concertos that blend traditional jazz with classical forms. His recordings and performances have earned multiple Grammy Awards, and he is noted for his technical precision, expressive phrasing, and commitment to the jazz tradition.
