Bio
Bronski Beat was a British synthpop trio formed in London in 1983, consisting of Jimmy Somerville, Steve Bronski, and Larry Steinbachek. The group emerged during the height of the hi-NRG and synthpop movements, quickly gaining attention for their politically charged lyrics and distinctive electronic sound. Their debut single "Smalltown Boy" became a landmark track, addressing themes of homophobia and alienation, and reached the UK Top 3. The band released two studio albums during their original run, including the gold-certified The Age of Consent (1984) and Out and About (1986). After Somerville departed in 1985 to form The Communards, Bronski Beat continued with new vocalists before disbanding in 1995. Their work remains influential in both electronic music and LGBTQ+ representation in pop culture.
