Bio

Mutabaruka is a Jamaican dub poet, actor, and radio host born Allan Hope on December 26, 1952, in Rae Town, Kingston. He emerged in the 1970s as a leading voice in Jamaican dub poetry, blending spoken-word performance with roots reggae rhythms to address social and political themes. Beyond his recordings, Mutabaruka has hosted the long-running radio program "The Cutting Edge" on Jamaican station IRIE FM, where he discusses Caribbean culture, history, and current affairs. His work has helped popularize dub poetry internationally while remaining deeply rooted in Jamaican oral traditions.
