Bio

Erich Wolfgang Korngold was an Austrian composer and conductor who achieved early fame as a child prodigy. Born in Brno in 1897, he studied in Vienna and composed his first major works while still a teenager. His operas, including Die tote Stadt, established him as one of the leading composers of the inter-war period. Korngold moved to Hollywood in the 1930s, where he became a pioneer of the symphonic film score. He won Academy Awards for his music to Anthony Adverse (1936) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). After the Second World War he returned to concert music, completing his Violin Concerto and Symphony in F-sharp before his death in 1957.
