Hope Sandoval is an American singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the dream pop band Mazzy Star. Born in Los Angeles in 1966, she first gained recognition in the late 1980s with the Paisley Underground group Opal before forming Mazzy Star with guitarist David Roback. Her distinctive, ethereal vocal style helped define the band's sound on albums such as So Tonight That I Might See (1993) and Among My Swan (1996).
