Paul Johnson

Bio

Paul Johnson (1971–2021) was a Chicago-based house music DJ and producer whose career helped define the city’s late-1990s and early-2000s dance scene. Working primarily in the Chicago house, disco house, and funky house styles, he released dozens of singles and several albums on labels such as Cajual, Moody, and Peacefrog. His best-known track, the 1999 single “Get Get Down,” became an international club hit and reached the top ten of several European pop charts. Beyond his own productions, Johnson was an in-demand remixer for artists across the house and disco spectrum and maintained a long-running presence behind the decks in Chicago and abroad. Johnson’s work is noted for its raw drum-machine grooves, sampled disco hooks, and playful vocal edits. He remained active in the studio and on tour until his death in 2021.
