Bio

Stephen Hough is a British pianist, composer and writer born in Heswall, England. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Juilliard School, and has performed with major orchestras worldwide. Hough is known for his wide-ranging repertoire that spans from Bach and Beethoven to contemporary works, and he has recorded extensively for Hyperion Records. He is also a published author and composer whose works have been performed by leading ensembles. Hough was the first classical instrumentalist to be awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2001.
