Jimmy Buffett was an American singer-songwriter from Pascagoula, Mississippi, who became the central figure of the tropical rock and Gulf and Western scene. He began his career in Nashville in the late 1960s before moving to Key West, Florida, where he developed his signature laid-back, island-infused sound. His breakthrough came with the 1977 album Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes and its hit single "Margaritaville," which spawned a massive multimedia brand including restaurants, merchandise, and a devoted fanbase known as Parrotheads. Over five decades he released more than 30 studio albums, blending country, folk, rock, and Caribbean influences, and collaborated with artists such as the Coral Reefer Band and Alan Jackson. Buffett also authored best-selling books and produced theatrical adaptations of his music. He maintained a consistent touring schedule until his death in 2023.
