Cornelio Reyna was a Mexican singer and songwriter who became one of the most influential figures in norteño and ranchera music. Born in 1940 in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, he rose to prominence in the 1960s as the lead vocalist of the pioneering duo Los Relámpagos del Norte alongside accordionist Ramón Ayala. His powerful, emotive voice and heartfelt delivery helped define the golden era of norteño music, with hits like "Me Caíste del Cielo" and "Lágrimas del Corazón" becoming classics of the genre. Reyna's work bridged traditional Mexican folk styles with the emerging norteño sound, influencing generations of artists in both Mexico and the United States. He continued recording and performing until his death in 1997, leaving behind a legacy that remains central to Mexican regional music.
