Roy Ayers (born September 10, 1940) is an American vibraphonist, composer, and bandleader whose work spans jazz, funk, and acid jazz. Emerging in the late 1960s, he gained prominence with his group Roy Ayers Ubiquity, blending soulful grooves with jazz improvisation. His 1976 album "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" became a cornerstone of jazz-funk, featuring the title track that has been widely sampled in hip-hop and electronic music. Ayers continued releasing influential recordings through the 1980s and beyond, maintaining a presence in both jazz and dance music scenes. Throughout his career, Ayers has collaborated with artists across genres and remains recognized for his distinctive vibraphone playing and pioneering role in jazz-funk fusion.
