Bio
Simon Rattle is a British conductor born in Liverpool in 1955. He rose to prominence as principal conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra from 1980 to 1998, later serving as chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2018. Since 2023 he has been music director of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Rattle is known for his wide-ranging repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary music and for championing new works. He has recorded extensively for EMI and Warner Classics and received numerous awards including multiple Grammy Awards.
