Bio

Roger Troutman is an American funk musician, singer, songwriter and producer from Hamilton, Ohio, best known as the frontman of the band Zapp. He pioneered the use of the talk box on funk and R&B records and scored major hits with Zapp including “More Bounce to the Ounce,” “Dance Floor” and “Computer Love.” As a solo artist he released albums such as The Many Facets of Roger and Unlimited!, while also producing and writing for artists including Shirley Murdock and his brothers in the Troutman family. His talk-box technique and funk grooves heavily influenced subsequent hip-hop, new jack swing and G-funk productions.
