Baden Powell (1937–2000) was a Brazilian guitarist and composer whose work helped define the sound of bossa nova and Brazilian jazz. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he combined classical technique with Afro-Brazilian rhythms, creating a distinctive finger-style approach that influenced generations of guitarists. Powell collaborated with leading figures of the bossa nova movement and recorded landmark albums such as “Tristeza on Guitar” and “Baden Powell Swings with the Rhythm Sections.” His compositions, including the widely performed “Samba Triste,” remain staples of the Brazilian repertoire.
