Cécile McLorin Salvant is a French-American jazz vocalist and composer born in Miami in 1989. She first gained international attention after winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2010, and has since released several acclaimed albums blending jazz standards with original material. Known for her wide vocal range, interpretive depth, and theatrical phrasing, Salvant often explores themes of identity, history, and storytelling in her performances. Her repertoire spans early jazz, blues, French chanson, and contemporary song, frequently accompanied by small ensembles or solo piano. In addition to her recordings, she is recognized for her work as a composer and arranger, and has collaborated with leading jazz musicians while maintaining a distinctive artistic voice.
