Bio
Ernest Tubb was an American country music singer and songwriter who helped define the honky-tonk style in the 1940s and 1950s. Known as the “Texas Troubadour,” he recorded more than 400 songs, including the classic “Walking the Floor Over You,” and became one of the first country artists to perform at Carnegie Hall. Tubb joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1943 and remained a fixture there for four decades, mentoring younger artists and championing the use of electric instruments in country music. His straightforward vocal style and emphasis on working-class themes influenced generations of performers in both traditional and outlaw country.
