Bio
Martinho da Vila is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and poet who rose to prominence in the late 1960s with his distinctive blend of samba, pagode, and MPB. Born in Duas Barras, Rio de Janeiro state, he became known for his literate, socially conscious lyrics and warm, conversational vocal style that helped modernize traditional samba forms. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has released dozens of albums, collaborated with many of Brazil’s leading musicians, and remained a respected voice in Brazilian popular music. His work often explores themes of Afro-Brazilian culture, everyday life, and national identity, earning him a lasting place in the country’s musical heritage.
