Bio

Eddie Palmieri is an American pianist, bandleader, and composer born in the Bronx in 1936. He is widely recognized as a pioneer of Latin jazz and salsa, blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz improvisation. Palmieri began his career in the 1950s, playing with Tito Rodríguez and others before forming his own groups, including La Perfecta, which introduced the trombone-heavy sound that became a hallmark of salsa. Over six decades, he has released dozens of albums, earning multiple Grammy Awards and influencing generations of musicians in both Latin and jazz traditions.
