Manuel Rosenthal

Bio

Manuel Rosenthal was a French conductor and composer born in Paris in 1904. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire and became a protégé of Maurice Ravel, who encouraged his compositional career. Rosenthal served as music director of the Seattle Symphony and later held conducting posts with major French orchestras including the Orchestre National de France. His works span orchestral, chamber, and vocal genres, often blending neoclassical clarity with French impressionist color. Notable compositions include the ballet "Gaîté Parisienne" and the opera "Rayon des Soieries." He remained active as a conductor and teacher until his death in 2003.
