Nickel Creek is an American progressive bluegrass band formed in 1989 in Vista, California. The group is known for blending traditional bluegrass instrumentation with elements of folk, rock, and classical music, creating a distinctive sound often described as newgrass or Americana. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1993, followed by several acclaimed releases including "This Side" (2002) and "Why Should the Fire Die?" (2005). The band consists of siblings Sean Watkins (guitar) and Sara Watkins (fiddle, vocals), along with mandolinist Chris Thile. After a hiatus beginning in 2007, Nickel Creek reunited in 2014 with the album "A Dotted Line," demonstrating their continued evolution while maintaining their signature acoustic sound and intricate musicianship.
