War

War is an American funk and rock band formed in Long Beach, California, in 1969. The group rose to prominence in the early 1970s with a fusion of funk, jazz, R&B, and Latin influences, scoring hits such as "Spill the Wine," "The Cisco Kid," and "Low Rider." The band’s core lineup included Eric Burdon (initially), Howard Scott, B.B. Dickerson, Charles Miller, Lonnie Jordan, Harold Brown, and Papa Dee Allen. After Burdon’s departure, War continued as an independent act, releasing a string of successful albums through the 1970s and early 1980s. War’s music is noted for its socially conscious lyrics, extended grooves, and multicultural sound. The group remained active into the 1990s, with various lineup changes, until the death of key members in the mid-1990s.
