Bio

Ernest Ranglin is a Jamaican guitarist and composer widely regarded as a pioneer of ska and reggae. Born in 1932, he began his career in the 1950s, playing on many of the earliest ska recordings and helping shape the sound of Jamaican popular music. Ranglin’s fluid, jazz-inflected guitar style influenced generations of musicians and can be heard on landmark tracks such as “Shuffling Jug” and “Liquidator.” Beyond the studio, he has performed internationally and collaborated with artists ranging from Monty Alexander to The Rolling Stones, cementing his reputation as one of Jamaica’s most important instrumental voices.
